Murphy Considered Loan Switch - Ipswich Town News

Keeper Brian Murphy has admitted that he might have looked at a loan move away from Portman Road in January if he was still out of the first team but having returned to the side the Irishman is determined to keep his place. Murphy made his second league start of the season at Hull a week ago having previously played in all Town’s Carling Cup ties.

The Waterford-born keeper says he spoke with his representatives about a possible move: "I discussed that with my own people and different options if, come January, I'm still not playing.

"But I don't want to leave and go 'well, that's it I've given up'. That's not the way I've ever worked."

But now he’s back in the team, he’s concentrating on staying there: "I try to work hard for my place in the team, I suppose if you're left with no other option you have to look at it.

"At the minute that hasn't crossed my mind, maybe further down the line if I wasn't playing I'd try and get some regular games. Hopefully it will come with Ipswich."

The 27-year-old hopes to be involved in his first East Anglian derby on Sunday: "Any derby's a good game, there's always going to be a good atmosphere.

"I'm not quite sure what the atmosphere's like in a Norwich-Ipswich game, but hopefully I'll get the experience on Sunday.”

Meanwhile, Football League clubs have until 5pm today to make any further emergency loan signings. After that they will have to wait until January to add to their squads.

Last week Town boss Roy Keane said the Blues weren’t actively targeting anyone, however, that may have changed with Tom Eastman picking up a groin injury at Hull and with the Blues having fallen to three successive defeats.

Keane may also look to send one or two of his younger players out on loan to gain experience, Jack Ainsley having joined Histon, who can be watched in action for free this evening, last week.

Town’s U18s are in FA Youth Cup third round action against Peterborough at Portman Road tonight (KO 7pm).

Elsewhere, Norwich boss Paul Lambert will learn at a personal hearing at the FA later today whether he will be allowed on the touchline at Sunday’s derby. The Scotsman has pleaded guilty to a charge of improper conduct relating to incidents during and after the Canaries’ recent 3-3 draw with Reading.
