West Bromwich Albion right-back Gianni Zuiverloon is set to join Town on loan, according to reports. The one-time Holland U21 international has been lined up to sign for the Blues on loan until January 4th if the clubs agree a deal before today’s 5pm deadline.
The 23-year-old started his career with Feyenoord, moving to RKC Waalwijk on loan, before a 2006 switch to Heerenveen. The Rotterdam-born defender, who can also play at centre-half, joined the Baggies for a fee of £2.3 million in July 2008.
A regular during West Brom’s promotion season, 5ft 8in tall Zuiverloon has only featured in their Carling Cup games since their elevation to the Premier League. Coincidentally, the Blues and the Baggies meet in the quarter-finals at Portman Road on Wednesday.
Town fans have been calling for Blues boss Roy Keane to sign a right-back for much of the season with Jaime Peters and Tom Eastman, primarily a midfielder and centre-half respectively, having been employed in the role up to now.
Eastman picking up a groin injury at Hull on Saturday could be what has prompted Keane to make the move for the Dutchman.
