BBC to Show UEFA Games - Ipswich Town News

As was let slip last week the BBC are virtually certain to show Town's home UEFA Cup games in either live or highlights form. Last week BBC presenter Rob Bonnett mentioned that Town's games would be shown despite the official line being that negotiations were on-going.

However, Town chairman David Sheepshanks has now confirmed the arrangement: "We have agreed a contract with the BBC, who have paid a non-refundable deposit. This gives them first rights to negotiate for our home legs. We are very pleased with this arrangement."

The draw for the first round is live on Eurosport on Friday morning at 11am. Held in Monte Carlo David Sheepshanks, Richard Moore, David Rose and John Kerr will be in attendance.

George Burley has said that despite the signing of a number of foreigners recently local lads are not out of the picture. Sixto Peralta yesterday became the latest in a line of foreign captures.

The Town boss said: "We have a few more players from abroad now but if you look back to the 1970s and 1980s there were 12 or 13 internationals from a number of different countries. The standard is so high now we need to improve our squad the best way we can, even if that means looking abroad. But we still have Titus Bramble and Richard Naylor in the line-up and they came through our youth system. We have other good players coming through. Darren Bent, from just up the road in Cambridgeshire, is in the first-team squad and he is just 17."

And Burley says players like Bent will get chances: "Just because we have brought in foreign players it doesn't mean our young players won't get the opportunity, they will and do."
