Fülöp: Packed Portman Road Gave Us a Huge Boost - Ipswich Town News

Keeper Márton Fülöp says a packed Portman Road gave the Blues a huge boost during last night’s 1-0 Carling Cup semi-final first leg victory over Arsenal. The Hungarian glovesman vowed to continue his fine record against the Gunners when Town travel to the Emirates for the second leg on Tuesday 25th January.

Fülöp said: "The fans were unbelievable and gave the players a great boost by getting right behind the team.

"That was just what we needed and it was a great result for us. A draw would have been good but to win is sensational.

"Having 30,000 in the ground is what we want. I came here to help the team get in the Premier League because that is where you want to be. We want to have games like that every week.

"Last night the opposition was Premier League, the fans were Premier League, the media stuff was Premier League. That is what we have to aim for."

The 27-year-old says Town can withstand the onslaught which is likely to face them at the Emirates in the second leg as he always does well against the Gunners: "I’ve played Arsenal four times now and kept three clean sheets.

"I feel I have a hold over them — different to Chelsea where I have conceded seven goals in my last two games against them.

"Another clean sheet and we will be at Wembley. And I can do it. Our fans were unbelievable last night and they deserve to reach a big final.”
