McParland: Wickham Could Be Unplayable - Ipswich Town News

Former Blues caretaker-manager Ian McParland says Town striker Connor Wickham “could be unplayable” once he gets a bit older. The Scot, who left the club yesterday, says the 17-year-old has a lot to learn but could go a long, long way in football.

McParland said: "Connor’s a young lad, a lot of people forget he’s only 17 and they heap a lot on his young shoulders. He’s learning the game, he’s not the finished article by far.

"If he keeps working hard and coaches get a hold of him and teach him to play the game, he’s got all the attributes to go and be a top player.

"They need to teach him how to spin in behind, get the ball into feet and play as a centre-forward. When he gets a bit older he could be unplayable.”

McParland used Wickham in a role on the left of a five-man midfield against Arsenal on Wednesday, having been impressed with him during training the previous day: "When I watched him in training on Tuesday he was sprinting up and down. He was raring to go.”
