Charlton 3-3 Reserves - Ipswich Town News

Ipswich salvaged a point from a game where they were twice in the lead. Sixto Peralta made a scoring 'debut' but in the end a good strike from Darren Bent gave Ipswich the point they deserved.

Town lined up in a 4-4-2 style with no real out and out wingers. new signing Sixto Peralta started out wide on the left despite not being left-footed, Abidallah and Tommy Miller starting in the centre of midfield.

Town's defence was always looking shaky when Lisbie ran at them fortunatly he couldn't produce another stunning finish like last Saturday. Town took the lead on the 23rd minute when a Abidallah cross was only cleared to Peralta who took the ball on his favoured right foot and unleashed a curler past Sasa Ilic, the ball hit both posts before going in quite a finish from the

new Town player.

Charlton though were back on level terms with five minutes left of the half when a Charlton cross was not cleared by Town and it fell to Mendonca who hit at goal the ball lobbed off Venus and was then touched in by Lisbie from less than a yard out.

Town came out for the second half looking much brighter with Tommy Miller, Abidallah and Peralta were linking well and causing Charlton problems.

Town's second goal came after Tommy Miller chased down a long ball and hit it over the keeper and left Darren Bent with an easy header into an open net. Ipswich then took off a very tired looking Abidallah and replaced him with Ian Westlake.

Almost immediately Ashley Nicholls pulled down Mendonca, Charlton's first attempt at a quick freekick was dashed by the referee who was too busy getting the Town wall back exactly ten yards, he then moved the ball back three

yards only for Konchelsky to move it five yards forward and thrash it past Branagan for the equaliser.

To compound matters Brown and Venus then went

to sleep at the back and let McDonald have a free shot which he buried past Branagan to make the score 3-2.

Town though were ever industious, with Miller at the heart of most of the good Town moves, made one last chance when Darren Bent picked up a ball on the edge of the Charlton area beat Andy Todd and unleashed a left foot stunner into the bottom corner.

Overall a good Town performance, Peralta once match fit looks like the perfect foil for the

centre of midfield, he has a great right foot and doesn't shy out of any tackles and runs all over the field for the ball. Tommy Miller also looks

good for a first team place sooner rather than later as well, probably Town's best player as well.
