Wickham and O\'Dea Win Caps - Ipswich Town News

Connor Wickham won his fourth England U19 cap but was on the losing side as Germany left Chesterfield’s new B2net Stadium after a 1-0 friendly victory. Loanee defender Darren O’Dea was also in international action with the Republic of Ireland.

Wickham was subbed on the hour mark in what appeared to be a pre-planned change having had a relatively quiet game. Germany’s winner was scored by Denis Thomalla three minutes before the break.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish and representatives from Arsenal, Chelsea and Aston Villa were amongst those watching the game.

O’Dea’s side beat Wales 3-0 at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin with the central defender coming on to win his fourth full cap with five minutes of the match remaining.

Former Blues skipper Jon Walters, winning his second cap, started for Ireland for the first time and impressed, creating Ireland’s second goal. Darron Gibson, Damien Duff and Keith Fahey netted for Ireland after the break.

Town have eight players who could win international caps on Wednesday evening.
