Gaardsoe in Action - Ipswich Town News

Town's new signing Thomas Gaardsoe was in action for the Danish U21 side last night as they beat Northern Ireland 2-0. Gaardsoe himself almost added a third late on.

Meanwhile Pablo Couñago was neither in the side nor amongst the subs as Spain's youngsters beat Austria's 2-0.

Former Town striker Mich D'Avray has vowed to fight against elements in the Perth Glory dressing room causing disharmony. The South African was one of the few players from the '81 squad missing from the reunion earlier in the week.

D'Avray's predecessor Bernd Strange had problems with a number of players during his time as manager but D'Avray has laid down the law: "I'll say this, Bernd was soft compared to how I think I'll be in the same situation. Players who want to cause conflict will be out very quickly. I will not stand for that."

D'Avray took over the Glory at the beginning fo the season and knows the home crowd are desperate for success. However, he cites his previous experiences as a manager in South Africa as standing him in good stead: "In South Africa, you lose a few games and they want to kill you, you get death threats - I don't think the Western Australia public will want to do that to me. Hopefully they won't, anyway."

Paul Cooper has said that Town's success last season even bettered the achievements fo the '81 side he was a part of. The keeper was amongst those attending the UEFA Cup reunion on Thursday after flying in from Tenerife where he now lives.

The man with the gum said: "It was more of an even playing field in my time as a player. The fact that Ipswich had a chance of finishing in third place until the very last day of the season was fantastic."
