Jewell Undecided on Skipper - Ipswich Town News

Boss Paul Jewell says he’s not yet decided who will stand in as skipper when the Blues take on Doncaster at the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday (KO 7.45pm). Regular captain Norris is out after twisting his knee and ankle at Barnsley on Saturday.

Jewell, who flew back to South Yorkshire with his squad this afternoon, is yet to consider who to choose: "I haven’t even thought about it. I’ll pick a name out of a hat! I said this when I was at Derby, laughing and joking, and it made the Daily Mail.

"I’ll give it some thought overnight. We are quite a quiet team, but footballers are a lot quieter than they used to be anyway. I’ll give it some thought, but whoever captains the team, it will be a big honour for them and I’m sure they’ll do a good job.”

The Blues boss says he wasn’t aware that it was Grant Leadbitter who took the armband from Norris at Oakwell: "I don’t even know. It’s one of those things in football that’s less important to people these days.

"Sometimes people skipper without wearing the armband — they are vocal and a big personality in the dressing room without having it.

"It’ll be a great honour for whoever wears it and hopefully it’ll be a short-term thing as Chuck will be fit again soon.”

One man who Jewell says won’t get the nod is loanee Jimmy Bullard, the Town manager feeling that the midfielder does his bit on the leadership front anyway: "Jimmy captain? No chance! He’d forget to go and toss up! And then he probably wouldn’t make his mind up whether to call heads or tails! You wouldn’t give Jimmy the armband because he’s a natural as he is.”
