Jewell Wants Players to Get Used to Big Game Atmosphere - Ipswich Town News

Town manager Paul Jewell says he wants his players to get used to playing in the type of intimidating atmosphere they’ll experience at Elland Road, Leeds on Saturday. The game will be a trip home for the former Bradford boss, whose home is in in West Yorkshire.

Jewell said: "It’s got a great atmosphere, it can be intimidating but I want our players to embrace that. That’s where you want to play - in front of 30,000 people.

"I want our players to want to play in front of full stadiums because that’s eventually where we want to be playing week-in, week-out.”

As an ex-Bantams manager and player, Jewell is expecting a bit of banter from the home fans, and perhaps his neighbours: "I think everyone gets stick at Leeds! I live about 10 miles away from the ground, so I’ll probably be getting a bit of stick if we don’t win.

"The hotel we’re staying in is about two minutes from my house and I think my wife’s expecting me to stay at home, but she won’t get her wish!

"It’s an intimidating place but it’s a great club and I think the manager, Simon Grayson, has done a brilliant job.

"It’s a game I’m really looking forward to. You’d like to go there with your strongest team, but someone’s misfortune is an opportunity for somebody else. After Tuesday night, the lads should be chomping at the bit.”
