Burley Denies Naylor Rumours - Ipswich Town News

Geoerge Burley has moved swiftly to quash rumours that Richard Naylor is after a transfer. Speculation started when the striker failed to even appear on the bench at Leicester on Saturday.

TWTD had even heard from a normally reliable source that Naylor was in talks at the end of last week with a First Division club, thought to be Bradford City.

According to the Town manager though Naylor is staying: "Richard has been feeling a bit unsettled, but we are in a situation here where there are several strikers fighting for places up front. You can only start with eleven. I have spoken to Richard and explained the situation and we'll have to see what happens from here. Over the past two years Richard has not played that much football and it is good that he is looking fit and sharp now."

David Sheepshanks has hailed Saturday's display against Leicester as the kind of performance which will do Town well in Europe.

The chairman said: "We've just shown the sort of battling qualities you need in Europe."

Sheepshanks feels that the spirit shown at Leicester will serve Town well against Torpedo Moscow.

The Russians lost 3-0 in the Russian Cup at the weekend to Amkar. Town scout Romeo Zondervan watched a depleted Torpedo side lose 4-0 to German side Bochum last week. They were without seven players who were away on international duty. Town and the Russians have exchanged videos of each other in action.

The Russians are brining 100 fans to watch the game.
