Jewell: Priskin Move Calculated Risk - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Paul Jewell says allowing striker Tamás Priskin to go out on loan to Swansea without replacing him was a “calculated risk”. Priskin has joined the Swans for the remainder of the season with the possibility that the deal could become permanent.

Jewell says that he feels the squad is strong enough to avoid relegation: "Without ever counting our chickens, I think we have got enough here to make sure we stay in this division.

"Tamás was not in the team, even though he was close and was around the team, but hopefully he will do well at Swansea and maybe, just maybe, if he does well he might just get himself a move.

"He has a future at Ipswich, but if an offer came in that suited us, then I would listen to it, but he’s not getting pushed out of the door. If he had wanted to stay here at Ipswich, then it wouldn’t have been a problem for him to stay.”

The Blues boss says he has cover with youngsters progressing into the first team: "It was one of those things where I thought it was OK to do. I just felt that we have Josh Carson coming through, and possibly Connor Wickham getting his chance down the middle now. We’ve also got Jason Scotland, and it’s not as though we score a million goals as well.

"Tamás has worked with Brendan Rodgers before and done very well for him, so we wish him well. It’s a calculated risk.”

Jewell confirmed that Simon Cox was a deadline day target and also says he looked elsewhere for loan replacements for Priskin: "We tried to get Simon Cox from West Brom and we tried to get a couple more but that didn't really happen."

Town could also recall Republic of Ireland U21 international Ronan Murray from his loan at Torquay early in April if required.
