Jewell Could Target Frees - But in the Right Way - Ipswich Town News

Blues boss Paul Jewell says he might look to bring out of contract players from other clubs to Portman Road in the summer but won’t be talking about them in the same way Portsmouth manager Steve Cotterill has spoken about his interest in Blues skipper David Norris.

Jewell was unimpressed with the way Cotterill talked about his captain, the subject of a Pompey bid in January: "I think some of the comments he made were just wrong. He never said anything to me.

"But at the end of the day I’m not going to tell Steve Cotterill how to do his job but he’s our player and I don’t particularly like our players going to their clubs when they are still Ipswich Town players.

"We might be able to nick someone from somebody else,” he added. "But it’s just the way you go about it.”

The Blues boss says that in the way of Portsmouth’s relegation, he wonders where they have got the money to afford the players they already have in their squad, let alone make additions: "Where they are getting the money to pay Kitson, Liam Lawrence, Mokoena and Kanu is anyone’s guess. They’ve got money but it must be from the fall out from the Premier League.”

Whether Norris remains at the Blues after the summer of moves on to one of several reported suitors is still very much up in the air.
