Redknapp Again Plays Down Wickham Link - Ipswich Town News

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has again played down reports that he’ll make a summer move for Town striker Connor Wickham. Spurs are widely understood to be the frontrunners for the 18-year-old’s signature with the Blues said to have put a £10 million price tag on his head.

Redknapp says he’d not look to sign the England U21 international for that kind of cash as he doesn’t think he’s ready for the Premier League quite yet: "I don't see us paying the sort of money that Ipswich are talking about.

"He's not someone who'd be ready to play in the first team next season. He'd be better off staying for another year."

Last week Redknapp similarly said he wouldn’t pay £10 million for the Town academy product and dismissed suggestions that he had already made offers for the Hereford-born frontman.

Elsewhere, ex-Town striker Billy Clarke, now with Blackpool, is considering spending the summer in the US’s MLS as he looks to prove his fitness after the knee ligament injury which has kept him out of the Seasiders’ Premier League campaign.

He said: "I have to sit down with the manager and the physio and see what they think, but it would be nice to get some competitive games in during the off-season, then come back fully fit pre-season.

"It is an option that I would really like to do. Hopefully then I'd come back for our pre-season having played eight or nine games on my knee. Then the injury would be fully behind me and I won't be worrying about it."
