Liverpool Now Reportedly Main Contenders for Wickham - Ipswich Town News
Liverpool are this week’s main contenders to sign Town striker Connor Wickham in the summer, according to today’s tabloids. Tottenham had previously been reported to be the frontrunners but manager Harry Redknapp has recently played down his interest in the £10 million-rated frontman.
Like the rest of the Premier League’s bigger clubs, the Reds have been mentioned in connection with Wickham on plenty of occasions with their director of football strategy Damien Comolli spotted at Town’s 1-1 home draw with Hull City in February.
The 18-year-old, who extended his Town contract until 2014 earlier this week, supported the Merseysiders as a child.
On Friday, Blues boss Paul Jewell was realistic about the prospects of keeping Wickham if a big offer came in, but said the club currently aren't looking to cash in and that he didn't think that the player was yet interested in moving on: "Every player has a price, but I’m not looking to sell Connor Wickham and I don’t think Connor Wickham’s looking to leave.
"If someone came in with a silly offer and he wanted to go, we’d have to listen to it. But that would be the same for any player. "
Elsewhere, Town, Burnley and Reading are again all reported to be chasing Tottenham right-back Adam Smith, as first revealed by TWTD last month. The 19-year-old has impressed while on loan at Bournemouth this season.
