Blues boss Paul Jewell has dismissed links with Peterborough United frontman Craig Mackail-Smith. The Town manager and members of his staff have been spotted at Posh matches in recent months, which has led to speculation that the 27-year-old striker was on his radar.
Jewell says the former Dagenham and Redbridge man wasn’t the reason for his trips: "I am looking for goalscorers, but there is no truth in the Mackail-Smith stories.”
Left midfielder George Boyd and keeper Joe Lewis are the two other members of the Peterborough squad often tipped for moves to bigger clubs.
The Blues boss is keen to sign one, probably two, strikers during the summer but is also keen to hold on to at least one of his current frontmen: "Connor will not have to leave because we need the money. But like every club we are susceptible to any big offers that might come in.
"Connor indicates to me that he wants to stay and in my opinion he’ll be better off playing for Ipswich, a team that will hopefully next season be going for success.”
