Defender Damien Delaney says “unreasonable boss” Roy Keane was why he was clocked travelling at 44mph in a 30 zone in his Audi A5 in Tuddenham Road on October 15th last year. The Irishman was fined £235, given four points on his licence and ordered to pay costs of £100 at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
In a letter of mitigation, Delaney, who pleaded guilty by post, says he was anxious not to be late for training with former manager Roy Keane well-known for his tough attitude towards tardiness: "The reason I was going too fast was because I was late for work.
"I had an unreasonable boss at the time who would not accept lateness and would not have listened to me. I was worried that I was going to be fined two weeks’ wages.”
In December, Town dismissed claims of a fall-out between the pair, while Delaney later said he had no issue with his fellow Cork man.
The 29-year-old, who has been capped four times by his country, is currently with the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of their Euro 2012 qualifier in Macedonia tonight (Sky Sports One/HD1 8pm).
