Sir Bobby Drama Online - Ipswich Town News

BBC Radio Five Live’s drama Don't Cry For Me, Maradona celebrating the 25th anniversary of that goal is now available on the BBC’s iPlayer. Tim Healy plays Sir Bobby and Denise Welch his wife Lady Elsie.

Written by Aelish Michael in consultation with the Robson family, the radio play is set in the couple's favourite beauty spot, Hilltop, which overlooks Langley Park in County Durham, where they both grew up. It was first broadcast on Tuesday but is repeated on Sunday at 6pm as well as being available online.

Five Live also celebrates the life of Sir Bobby on Saturday with a special programme dedicated to the legendary former Town manager. The Day I Met Sir Bobby Robson (11am) features people whose lives were touched by Robson reflecting on the effect he had upon them.

It includes funny, heart-warming and emotional recollections from his childhood, from his days as a player and as a novice manager, to his time as one of the world’s top bosses and his struggles against cancer.

Last weekend saw the annual Sir Bobby Robson Celebrity Golf Classic at the Pestana Vila Sol Golf Resort in Vilamoura, Portugal.

The event, in which the likes of Alan Shearer, Steve Bruce, Mick McCarthy, Town’s Simon Milton and ex-Canary Bryan Gunn took part, raised a total of £65,000 which will be donated to the Faro-based children’s home, Refúgio Aboim Ascensão, a place close to Robson’s heart during his time working in Portugal.

The theme of the tournament, which was won by a team captained by former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Frank Stapleton, and subsequent gala dinner was Town’s 1981 UEFA Cup victory.
