Town Again Linked With St Ledger - Ipswich Town News

Town are set to make Preston North End an improved offer for central defender Sean St Ledger, according to a report in Ireland. The Blues have been chasing the 26-year-old since January with an additional centre-half still very much required, despite the recruitment of former Reading man Ivar Ingimarsson on a one-year deal.

While manager Paul Jewell confirmed that an offer had been made in January, the Blues boss said a fortnight ago that only an enquiry had at that point been made during this window.

At the end of last week, Bournemouth centre-half Jason Pearce, who was understood to be seen as an alternative to St Ledger, rejoined his former club Portsmouth. On Friday, Leicester were claimed to have made a £750,000 offer for St Ledger.

Meanwhile, a Twitter account purporting to be Tranmere defender Aaron Cresswell appears to confirm weekend reports that the 21-year-old Town target is on his way to West Brom. Sources in the North-West had previously strongly linked the Blues with the out-of-contract left-back.

Ex-Town defender Hermann Hreidarsson is yet to sign his new contract at Portsmouth, along with striker David Nugent, who is expected to join Leicester on his return from holiday, the Blues having been reported to have shown interest in the one-time England man earlier in the summer.

Former Crystal Palace midfielder Neil Danns, who is also now claimed to have been a Town target, has signed for the Foxes. Rangers, Celtic, Hull City, Bolton and Southampton had all previously been mentioned as potential destinations for the ex-Colchester man.
