Clegg: No Comment Until Deals Are Done - Ipswich Town News

Town chief executive Simon Clegg says he is keeping to the club’s usual policy of not commenting on transfer speculation until deals are done. The Blues are currently in talks with Sunderland after the Black Cats made an offer of £9 million plus a further £4 million in additional clauses for striker Connor Wickham with sources in the North-East claiming Town have accepted that fee.

Speaking to reporters this afternoon, Clegg said: "I’m not saying anything until I have something to say, and when I have got something to say then I will say it and you guys, and particularly your readers, will then know that it’s the truth.”

Regarding Wickham specifically, the chief executive would only be drawn so far: "There has been speculation about Connor every transfer window since I came to the club and this one is no different.

"In fact in this one it seems to be much greater than previous ones, so we’ll see where we get to.”

With reports in the North-East claiming the offer for the 18-year-old has been accepted, Clegg says that as soon as a deal involving any player is complete, he makes sure fans are informed: "If a transfer of a player had taken place, then I would have said something because I think it is incumbent on me to make public the position of this football club as soon as I have something to say.”
