Town boss Paul Jewell says that players will be added to his squad regardless of whether Connor Wickham completes his expected switch to Sunderland. The 18-year-old is likely to sign on the dotted line at the Stadium of Light this afternoon after the clubs agreed a fee which could ultimately be worth around £13 million.
Jewell said: "There has obviously been a lot of talk about Connor this week but we will be adding numbers to the squad whatever happens.
"I'm obviously pleased that we have brought in three players and there will be more to follow. That does not depend on any player leaving.
"Like I said, we need to add to the squad and we will be. I've been on the phone all summer and I'm sure that won't change for a while yet!"
According to reports in the North-East, Wickham passed his medical at the Stadium of Light yesterday having agreed personal terms with the Black Cats and is due at the club to sign a long-term deal today.
The fee is now understood to be an initial figure of around £9 million rising to close to the £13 million mark after appearances and the usual achievements at domestic and international level.
