Jewell: Long Term Decision on Webster Soon - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Paul Jewell says a decision on whether returning goalkeeper-coach Malcolm Webster will join his staff full-time will be made during his current month-to-month deal. Webster was back at Playford Road for the start of pre-season training this morning.

Jewell said: "Malcolm Webster comes highly recommended. He’s come on a short-term month-to-month contract and we’ll make a decision on whether we like each other pretty quickly.”

Webster, 60, was previously at Town under George Burley and Joe Royle’s management before leaving the club in June 2004 to team up with the Scot at Derby.

The ex-Cambridge, Fulham, Southend and Arsenal keeper also worked with Burley at Hearts, Southampton and Crystal Palace, and has also coached keepers at Norwich and Colchester.

The Doncaster-born glovesman - who was a big influence on Richard Wright during his first spell at the club - also runs a goalkeeping school with former Blues loan keeper Fred Barber.

Town’s previous keeper-coach, James Hollman, left the club after three years at the end of last season. TWTD understands that the one-time Blues trainee has received interest from Leicester and Manchester City’s academy since leaving Portman Road.
