Jewell: No Scotland Approach From Wednesday - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Paul Jewell says he has heard nothing from Sheffield Wednesday regarding their interest in striker Jason Scotland, despite their chairman Milan Mandaric confirming his club's interest in the Trinidad and Tobago international. Scotland looks likely to leave Portman Road this summer with the Blues manager having signed Michael Chopra and Nathan Ellington and confirming that he’s on the lookout for a third new frontman.

Jewell says the Owls are yet to speak to him about the 32-year-old: "That’s news to me. I had no idea of interest in him from Sheffield Wednesday.”

Despite his chairman's comments to the contrary, Owls boss Gary Megson now says his club isn't interested in Scotland after all: "I don't know where that came from."

The Town manager says a third new forward was always in his thoughts even prior to Connor Wickham moving on: "We’re looking for another striker. I’d like four strikers. We’ve got Jason Scotland here as well [as Chopra and Ellington] and Tamás Priskin too. If one of those goes I’ll bring another one in. If no one goes I’m still looking for another striker.

"Just because Connor’s left, it doesn’t mean we’ll have to buy another striker — we were going to get one anyway.”

Jewell says Town have heard nothing from Bursaspor regarding keeper Márton Fülöp, the Turkish side now having completed their signing of West Brom keeper Scott Carson: "I didn’t know anything about it. There’s been nothing official.”

The Liverpudlian currently has no bids on the table for any current members of his squad: "We haven’t got any offers for any of our players. I’m not kicking anybody out the door, I’m more interested in bringing people in.”

Speaking yesterday morning, Jewell was expecting academy second year left-back Joe Whight to put pen to paper on his two-year contract later in the day: "He hasn’t signed it yet, but the only reason he hasn’t is because I haven’t been here and I think that will be done today.”
