Meekings Joins Butcher\'s Boys - Ipswich Town News
Released Town defender Josh Meekings has agreed a two-year contract with Terry Butcher’s Inverness Caledonian Thistle after a successful trial. TWTD revealed that the 18-year-old, who was told he wouldn't be offered professional terms at the end of his academy scholarship, was interesting Caley back in April.
Butcher says Bury-born Meekings and former Rangers midfielder Andrew Shinnie should sign on later this week: "Both have been training with us and have made an excellent impression in our pre-season friendlies.
"I've made offers and both have accepted and the paperwork should be completed in the next few days.
"Josh never played a game for the first team at Ipswich, but he was a regular fixture in their academy side and he came highly recommended by my former team-mate Russell Osman, who is now coach of the U18s team at the club."
Meekings previously spent time on trial with Stevenage at the end of last season and was initially offered a contract before it was withdrawn by text.
Meanwhile, the current Town players are clearly finding pre-season taxing, defender Tommy Smith tweeting earlier this evening: "If there is one thing I can guarantee this season, it's that we are going to be a very fit squad!"
