Magilton Joins Shamrock Rovers - Ipswich Town News
Former Town manager and skipper Jim Magilton has joined League of Ireland side Shamrock Rovers as a temporary assistant to boss Michael O’Neill. The two previously played together for Northern Ireland.
O’Neill says Magilton will work alongside him with the Dublin club while he looks for a longer term deputy: "I thought Jim's other commitments in Northern Ireland and the UK would prevent him helping me at this crucial stage of the season.
"I was delighted when he said he would assist me until I find the right candidate for the job on a permanent basis.
"He brings not only a wealth of knowledge and experience of the game at the highest level, but he is someone I trust implicitly, and that was a key factor in my decision.”
Magilton, 42, has been out of work since leaving QPR in December 2009, having been dismissed by Town in the preceding April.

Blackburn Rovers 1-0 Ipswich Town - Match AbandonedTown look set to face a return trip to Blackburn Rovers later in the season after this afternoon’s game was abandoned after 80 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch with the home side 1-0 up and with the Blues down to 10 men. Jacob Greaves was shown a straight red card four minutes after the break for hauling down Yuki Ohashi, then Rovers skipper Todd Cantwell netted a penalty on 59, but the heavy rain had made the game increasingly farcical the longer it progressed and in the 80th minute referee Stephen Martin took the players off and then 25 minutes later abandoned it entirely.
