Palace Targeting Smith - Ipswich Town News

Crystal Palace are weighing up a £300,000 move for Town central defender Tommy Smith, according to reports this morning. The Eagles are said to turning their attention to the New Zealand international having failed to sign Patrick Kisnorbo, who has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal at Leeds.

Smith is yet to appear for Town since Paul Jewell took over as manager and the Blues boss may well be willing to listen to offers for the 21-year-old, who was sent out on loan to Colchester at the end of last season.

However, Jewell is likely to want to add to his central defenders before allowing Smith to leave with Gareth McAuley, Troy Brown and Tom Eastman all moving on this summer.

Meanwhile, George Boateng, who was training with Town late last week, is said to be in talks with his old Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren regarding a possible move to Nottingham Forest. Reports over the weekend claimed McClaren will look to sign a number of his old Boro players,

Elsewhere, former Blue Kieron Dyer, who spent time back at Portman Road on loan last season, is said to be ready to take a massive pay cut to remain in the Premier League. Dyer, who is understood to have started pre-season training with his former club West Ham, was linked with a play-to-be-paid deal with Everton late last season. Town's interest in signing the former England international appears to have cooled.

League One Charlton are reported to have made a £200,000 offer to Spurs for right-back Adam Smith, a player the Blues, Burnley and Reading are all targeting. Smith has previously said he is looking to play Championship football this season having spent the last campaign at AFC Bournemouth.

Southampton are reported to be ready to offer Huddersfield £500,000 for ex-Town winger Gary Roberts.
