Jewell: Holland Trip No Jolly - Ipswich Town News
Town boss Paul Jewell says the two-game pre-season tour of Holland is no summer jolly for his players but is an important part of the preparations for the campaign ahead. The Blues flew out to their Eindhoven training base yesterday.
Jewell said: "Pre-season is a time for getting people fit, it’s a time for bedding new players in, it’s a time for putting across and working on new ideas without the pressure of competitive matches.
"But the players are in no doubt what we expect from them. That is, 100 per cent effort at all times.
"If I get that, I’m comfortable. It’s when people drop off giving their best, that’s when things start to go wrong. The only way you know if you’ve had a good pre-season is if you win the first game.”
The Blues face FC Eindhoven on Tuesday afternoon (KO 3.30pm, local time) and fellow Eerste Divisie (second tier) side Den Bosch on Thursday (KO 7pm). TWTD will be at both games.
Joe Whight and Shane O’Connor are amongst the players understood to have been left behind and likely to be members of the Town XI which travels to Haverhill Rovers on Wednesday (KO 7.30pm).
