Indian Striker Wants Chopra to Join Him - Ipswich Town News
Indian international striker Sunil Chhetri has called on Blues frontman Michael Chopra to renew his interest in playing for the country of his father’s birth. The 27-year-old discussed acquiring an Indian passport in order to qualify for India late last year ahead of January’s Asian Cup but the talks ultimately came to nothing.
Chhetri said: "I wish he had come, it depends on him, the federation and his agent. I'm not sure what the issue is. The first time I met him he still had England ambitions but now he wants to represent India.
"He's a fantastic individual with experience in the top divisions. I wish he could come and share his knowledge with us."
Newcastle-born Chopra previously played international football for the England U15s, U16s, U17s, U19s, U20s and U21s.
