Town Target Slovenian Defender - Ipswich Town News

Town are understood to be hoping to sign Slovenian U21 international right-sided defender Aljaž Struna before this weekend’s season opener at Bristol City. The 20-year-old is believed to have been in England to hold talks with the Blues in the last few days.

Struna, who is rated around the £400,000 mark, is currently with FC Koper in his home country, a club with the rather unfortunate nickname of the Canaries, where he plays alongside former Blue Amir Karic. He has another year left on his contract.

The 6ft tall Piran-born player, who can operate at right-back, right centre-half and right midfield, made four appearances for his nation in qualifying for the UEFA European U21 Championships.

Struna, who previously won caps at U19 level and turns 21 on Thursday, has also appeared in the Champions League with his current side, losing a second round qualifying tie 5-1 to Dinamo Zagreb last season.

Speaking earlier today, chief executive Simon Clegg revealed the Blues were looking to add another player to the squad this week in addition to the season-long loan of Blackburn’s Keith Andrews.
