Jewell Not Ruling Out Fülöp Move - Ipswich Town News

Blues boss Paul Jewell says he knows nothing of West Brom’s reported interest in keeper Márton Fülöp but isn't ruling out the Hungarian international moving on this summer. The 28-year-old appears likely to want to leave Portman Road with the Town manager adding Fulham’s David Stockdale to the squad on a season-long loan.

Jewell said: "You want to ask West Brom about that. I haven’t heard anything from West Brom. I have to say since we brought in David Stockdale, Márton’s reaction has been terrific.

"He’s knuckled down, there’s been no sulking, his attitude has been terrific. But I understand that he wants to play football.

"We have to be careful because David Stockdale’s on a 24-hour recall, everyone knows that. But if something comes up that suits us and Márton wants to do it, we’ll listen to it. But we’re not chasing people out the door.”

The Liverpudlian says there’s no one he’s desperate to move on: "I’m not actively looking to let people go out. That’s not to say there won’t be people going out because in football we all know there are ins and outs.

"But I don’t need to sell anybody, I don’t need to let anybody go. However, if something comes in for us that suits us and suits the player, we’ll listen to it.

"If it doesn’t suit us, we won’t listen to it. If it doesn’t suit the player and he doesn’t want to go, we’re not forcing anybody out the door. We’re more interested in bringing people in and building for the future.

"It’s a long hard season and not everything has to happen in the first month of the season, but even with the transfer window closing on August 31st we can still trade on the loan market after that.”

One man who has left Portman Road is Republic of Ireland U21 international midfielder Conor Hourihane. The 20-year-old former Sunderland player signed a two-year contract at League Two Plymouth Argyle earlier in the week, something which delighted Jewell: "That’s terrific. We gave Conor a six-month contract and he came back in really good nick, but he was probably not close to our first team.

"So, when the opportunity came for him to go and play at Plymouth, we had great pleasure in seeing a young player like that getting himself a two-year contract and hopefully going and playing football for Plymouth, which in itself is a big club.

"He’ll learn more about himself and about how good he is playing for them than he would on the periphery of our first team.”

Hourihane is set to make his senior debut for the Pilgrims when they travel to Shrewsbury on Saturday.
