Town boss Paul Jewell says central defender Damien Delaney should be fit for Saturday’s home game against his former club Hull City despite being withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad due to the ankle injury he suffered at Bristol City at the weekend.
Jewell said: "It’s swollen up. He got some treatment yesterday and I think he’ll be OK for the weekend. He’s just tweaked his ankle ligaments and they can be a little bit sore.
"It happened just before half-time. He tried to carry on and once we got the third goal he couldn’t carry on any more. He’s a doubt for the weekend but I’m sure he’ll be OK.”
Tommy Smith, who replaced Delaney in the 63rd minute at Ashton Gate, appears certain to start against Northampton on Tuesday with the Blues likely to go into the match with no recognised central defensive cover on the bench
