Blues boss Paul Jewell says midfielder Josh Carson didn’t come back from the close season in as “good a shape as he possibly should have done”. Even so, talks have begun with the 18-year-old Northern Ireland international regarding a new contract with his current terms up next June.
Jewell said: "His contract is up in the summer and Josh is one who has come back in not as good a shape as he possibly should have been. That is ongoing. The owner is speaking with his agent again.
"Josh has got a little bit to prove. Josh burst on the scene last year and scored a couple of goals in one of his first games, then missed training the next day, scored again, and did very well.
"He’s come back, he’s probably had expectations, he’s probably had people blowing in his ear about this that and the other and he just needs to knuckle down, concentrate on his football and we can talk about his contract in the not too distant future.”
Meanwhile, the Town manager says he’s no nearer to adding a third keeper to his squad: "The news is that the search goes on.”
