Town boss Paul Jewell says he is hoping to sign three more players with the transfer window due to close on Wednesday evening at 11pm. Defenders remain the Blues manager’s priority as he looks to take his summer signings beyond the 11 he has already made.
Jewell said: "There is some wheeling and dealing going on but it's out of my hands at the moment. We are waiting on two Premier League clubs about two players, both loans.
"They have their targets and if they can make that work, then they will look at freeing up the players we want. If they don't get in players, they won't release them.
"We have three targets in mind. Two are defenders, one isn't and we will have to see what develops over the next 24 hours, or when the loan window opens."
Stoke’s Danny Collins is likely to be one of the defenders, while a right-back could also be amongst those targeted. The other player is likely to be either a wide midfielder or goalkeeper, the two other areas where Town currently most need cover.
Jewell says he has received interest but no bids for any current members of his squad: "We have had a couple of enquiries for our players but no more than that and nothing that is of interest to us.
"In this mad world we live in, we might get something and I think you can have too many players in one position. But I am more interested in getting a couple of players in and I am under no pressure to get rid of people.”
Jason Scotland, who is believed to be back home in Trinidad at present, is thought to be interesting Coventry, Birmingham and Middlesbrough, and we understand Blackpool have also been eyeing the 32-year-old frontman.
Portsmouth could also make a renewed bid for skipper Grant Leadbitter having had an initial offer turned down earlier in the month.
