On-loan Town midfielder Andy Drury got his 93-day spell at Crawley off to a goalscoring start as the Red Devils beat Bradford 3-1 at the Broadfield Stadium this afternoon.
Drury, who was also booked for dissent, slotted the ball past the Bantams keeper from inside the area in the 62nd minute to put his side 2-1 in front and claim his first goal in the Football League. Ex-Blue Tom Eastman was also in the Crawley team, having joined them on loan from Colchester for a month.
Speaking yesterday, boss Paul Jewell said he felt Drury has been a bit unlucky not to play more since his £150,000 January move from Luton: "Andy’s been a bit unfortunate. He’s not started a lot of games and I had a chat with him and told him that at 27 he has to play football.
"He agreed and Crawley have been chasing him for a while. I think he’d got to a stage where he was worried about getting into a comfort zone, which you can do when you get used to coming in every day, you’re training Sunday morning and training Saturday when the team are playing as well.
"He wants to go and feel good about himself and play football. That’s what I want everyone to do. I don’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable.”
Drury’s loan deal includes a clause which could see the switch made permanent in the January transfer window.
Midfielder Jamie Griffiths, 19, played the first hour for his loan club Plymouth as they were beaten 2-0 at Southend, the bottom-of-the-table Pilgrims' eighth successive League Two defeat.
