Aldershot Defender Linked - Ipswich Town News

Town are one of a number of Championship clubs reported to be keeping an eye on Aldershot left-back or midfielder Anthony Straker. The Blues, Watford and Coventry are all said to be interested in the 22-year-old who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The London-born Grenada international started his career with Crystal Palace, joining the Shots in July 2007 without playing a game for the Eagles.

Former England U18 cap Straker, who also qualifies to play international football for Barbados, spent time on loan at Wycombe Wanderers earlier in the year, making two starts and two sub appearances, in addition to his 173 starts, eight games from the bench and five goals for the League Two Shots.

A left-back is by no means a Town priority at present with summer signing Aaron Cresswell one of the Blues’ best performers this season and Mark Kennedy an alternative option. However, the veteran Irishman’s contract is up at the end of the season and manager Paul Jewell has said he is eyeing potential targets for the longer term.

Meanwhile, Town assistant manager Chris Hutchings was at Selhurst Park this evening to watch Crystal Palace’s 2-1 Carling Cup victory over Middlesbrough, presumably running the rule over Saturday’s opponents.
