McCarthy: Reserves Will Face Tougher Games - Ipswich Town News

Coach Sean McCarthy says he hopes Town’s reserves side will be taking on better quality opposition in the weeks to come having beaten Gillingham 8-1 and Peterborough 5-0 in their last two friendlies. The Blues pulled their second string out of the less than inspiring Football Combination East Division in the summer in order to play only friendlies this season.

McCarthy, who took on reserves duties after Chris Kiwomya’s departure in the close season, says he has spoken to a number of Premier League clubs about matches: "I've been on the phone to Ronnie Jepson at QPR and we're hoping to get a game with them tied up in the next couple of weeks.

"We want to be playing strong opposition and if we can get the 'big boys' down, the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal, then we may even play those games at Portman Road.

"We will also be looking to play at the opposition's training ground as well, as I think that will benefit our players if they are playing somewhere other than at home."

All the matches so far this season have been played behind closed doors but where both clubs agree games will be open to the general public with details announced a couple of days beforehand.
