Palace in for Naylor - Ipswich Town News

Crystal Palace are targeting Richard Naylor according to reports this lunchtime. Naylor, 24, has been reported as unsettled at Portman Road over the last few weeks and a move certainly looks on the cards.

A First Division club has always looked a more likely destination for one of Town's Wembley heroes and Palace manager Steve Bruce has long been an admirer of Naylor. When Town were negotiating to buy Marcus Stewart from Bruce's former club Huddersfield he tried to get Naylor in part exchange. At the time Town were unwilling to let the Yorkshireman go.

Naylor has made 62 appearances for Town, has appeared as sub 74 times, and has scored 23 goals. Town should get around the £1 million mark for the Leeds-born striker.

It seems Tommy Miller will be getting a first start for the Blues this evening as well as Sixto Peralta. TWTD has learnt that both Matt Holland and Jim Magilton will be missing from the centre of Town's midfield at Gresty Road tonight.

It is also likely that Hermann Hreidarsson and Finidi George will also be missing after international action at the weekend.

Tony Dable, the man behind the careers of Kieron Dyer, Richard Wright, James Scowcroft and many others, has been offered a job at Chelsea as a full time recruitment officer.

Dable was the youth development officer at Portman Road under John Lyall but left Portman Road just four months after George Burley came to the club as the new manager sought to restructure the youth system.

Dable is highly-rated by his former charges with Kieron Dyer speaking to us over the summer in an interview for Phil's book (in the shops now): "Tony Dable is a forgotten man because the Gaffer gets the credit for putting the youngsters in. However, of myself, James Scowcroft, Richard Wright and Titus Bramble, Tony brought us all to the club. I never forget Tony, because I owe a lot to him."

Of his appointment Dable said: "I am delighted and it is nice to be back. I have had a few previous offers in the last six years but nothing

materialised. I was not interested in a part time job; I wanted it to be full time. I applied for the vacancy at Chelsea and will be working with youth team coach Steve Clarke."

At Chelsea he joins former Ipswich colleague Mick McGiven who gave Dable's sacking as a reason behind his leaving the club back in 1995. McGiven is Chelsea's reserve coach.
