Boss Paul Jewell says that there were concerns that midfielder Lee Martin might have suffered permanent damage to his sight when a stone caught him in the eye while playing golf last week. Fortunately the former Manchester United man seems set to make a full recovery from the injury.
Martin suffered the problem when golfing on a day off, a stone flicking up into his eye as he made a shot causing bleeding behind it. An ambulance was called and he saw specialists at London’s Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Jewell says the injury isn't as serious as had been feared and the 25-year-old should be back in action soon: "We were quite worried for a while but thankfully there is no permanent damage and it's now just a case of Lee getting a week's rest and allowing the bleeding to settle down.”
Meanwhile, the Blues manager has confirmed that the groin injury which forced defender Danny Collins out of the Wales squad yesterday is nothing too serious, just a niggle the on-loan Stoke man has been carrying for a while.
Summer signing Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has had an injection in the ankle he injured against Leeds with the problem still not entirely healed.
Jewell said: "He's had a scan and an injection to see if we can settle that down a little bit because he's been playing and training in a little discomfort."
