Duo Face Fitness Checks Ahead of Cardiff Trip - Ipswich Town News

Town will give fitness tests to Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Reece Wabara before the squad makes the trip to Cardiff this afternoon ahead of Saturday’s game against the Bluebirds. Emmanuel-Thomas, who was on loan at Cardiff last season, has been suffering with an ankle problem, while Wabara aggravated his hamstring problem in the reserves last week.

Manager Paul Jewell said: "We’ve got to check on Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Reece Wabara to make sure they're fine.

"Wabara did his hamstring quite badly when he was playing for England’s U20s over the summer and he just felt a little tweak in the reserve game. He’s been training with the physio and we’ll see how he is today.

"Emmanuel-Thomas has had a problem with his ankle ever since the Leeds game. He’s had a steroid injection on it and hopefully that will settle it down.”

One man who is definitely out is winger Lee Martin due to his recent eye injury: "Lee’s trained for two days this week but he’s not in the travelling squad.

"He’s physically fit but I don't know whether he’ll be getting involved in heading balls and stuff like that with his eye. It was quite a nasty injury, so we have to be careful with that.”

Danny Collins will be OK despite pulling out of the Wales squad with a groin problem, while Daryl Murphy is over his hamstring injury and could return to the bench, although Nathan Ellington impressed as a sub in his absence against Brighton.

Jewell says Ibrahima Sonko has managed some rare outings at Playford Road during the international break: "He’s been training this week.

"I think the break has done him more good than anybody. But he’s one of those players that isn’t going to run all over the park, he’s a centre-half and you don’t want your centre-half to be covering 12,000 metres because that means you’re getting the run around.”

The Blues boss says all his international players will return fit as far as he is aware: "Keith Andrews will come back in this morning, I haven’t heard anything so presumably he’s well.

"He played on Tuesday so I gave him an extra day’s rest. It’s the first day we’ve been able to get everyone in together to do some work for tomorrow. They’re all back today, Josh Carson, Cormac Burke and Tamás Priskin as well.”

Jewell confirmed that Carlos Edwards is in his plans for Saturday’s game despite his traumatic week.
