Sonko a Doubt for Palace Clash - Ipswich Town News

Central defender Ibrahima Sonko is Town's main doubt ahead of Saturday’s home game against Crystal Palace due to the hamstring injury he suffered in Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Portsmouth. Blues boss Paul Jewell says there are one or two other players with minor niggles but wouldn’t be drawn on the identities of those involved.

Jewell said: "Ibrahima Sonko is doubtful because he nicked his left hamstring and there was a little bit of fluid on it yesterday.

"As we sit here on a Thursday, he’s a doubt and there are one or two other knocks and little niggles that we don’t really want to disclose. We’ve got one or two little doubts for Saturday.”

If Sonko misses out, the Town manager will have to choose between Damien Delaney, who has regularly been on the bench over the last few weeks, and Ívar Ingimarsson, who started the season in the Senegalese international’s right-sided central defensive role before picking up the thigh injury which kept him out for a month.

Striker Jason Scotland may be one of the other injury concerns with Jewell mentioning that the Trinidadian had a minor hamstring problem after the Portsmouth game. The Blues boss felt the 32-year-old looked a little tired against Pompey and could be considering giving Nathan Ellington a start in his place.

Despite the under par performance against Portsmouth, Jewell says its significance shouldn’t be overstated: "Let’s have it right, we didn’t play well the other night but let’s not make a crisis out of a game we won 1-0. Give me a few more of them and I’ll be happy.”

Town are running a ticket promotion for Saturday's game.
