Cropper Set for Olympics? - Ipswich Town News

Keeper Cody Cropper could be in with a chance of appearing at next summer’s Olympics after being called up to a US U23s training camp in Duisburg, Germany from November 7th-16th.

Cropper, 18, is one of a number of players included in the squad previously only capped at U20 level. Olympics football is played between U23 sides with the addition of three overage players.

Coach Caleb Porter says the aim of the camp is to assess his options: "The goal was to put together a comprehensive group of players to further evaluate the pool while building towards Olympic qualifying.

"By having a mix of domestic and overseas-based professionals, we can develop a clearer picture of who can help us in qualifying and hopefully the 2012 Olympic Games.”

The 6ft 3in tall keeper, who is in the final year of his academy scholarship, signed a one-year professional contract with the Blues in the summer.

Full-back Aaron Cresswell has been linked with possible involvement with Britain's Olympic side, while central defender Tommy Smith could be in line for a place in New Zealand's squad.
