Town Name New Scouts - Ipswich Town News

The two new full-time scouts manager Paul Jewell revealed he had added to his staff at last night’s Supporters Club AGM have been named as former Everton midfielder Andy King (left) and one-time Bolton centre-half Mark Seagraves.

Former England U21 international King, 55, was also with Luton, QPR, West Brom and Aldershot amongst others in a playing career which stretched from 1974 to 1990.

Since then he has managed Waterford United, Mansfield, Swindon (twice) and Grays Athletic, as well as being assistant boss at Derby County. He took both the Stags and the Robins to play-offs during his time in charge.

King has previously scouted for Sunderland and Everton and has was chief scout at Colchester United last season having previously been in the same position at Plymouth Argyle.

Seagraves was a youth team colleague of Jewell’s at Liverpool and like the Town boss moved on from Anfield without making a senior appearance.

The 45-year-old subsequently played for Manchester City, Norwich City (on loan), Bolton Wanderers and Swindon before joining Jewell’s coaching staff at Wigan and then Derby. He has also worked as assistant manager at Blackpool.

Speaking last night, the Blues boss says the appointments mean the club is as strong as anyone in the division with regard to scouting with the two new additions joining chief scout Steve McCall and David Hamilton: "We’ve added two full-time scouts to our network, which gives us four full-time scouts, which is as many as any Championship, if not Premier League, team has, as well as three or four part-time scouts. I think recruitment is everything in football.”

He says he will be looking for them to find youngsters in the mould of summer recruit Aaron Cresswell: "When I’m looking at our scouting network and the way forward for us, I think there have to be some young, hungry players out there playing at a low level who, when they come to Ipswich, it’s the biggest thing in their football lives.

"I’m not saying we’re just targeting the lower leagues, but I definitely think there are gems out there that we can try and unearth to bring to a club like Ipswich, as well as the experienced players.”
