Paul Jewell admits that life is tough at Portman Road at present, but says he has come through similarly difficult spells before when manager at Bradford and Wigan.
Jewell said: "No one’s never had setbacks. When I was at Bradford we went up in my first year but after seven games people wanted me out. We came here and lost 3-0 to Ipswich. But after that we turned it around.
"At Wigan, everyone thought we were going to win [what's now League One] because Dave Whelan was paying decent wages.
"I remember the day that England beat Germany 5-1 we didn’t play because we’d got a number of internationals and I’d gone to Cambridge to watch Wade Elliott play for Bournemouth.
"Because we hadn’t played, we went to the bottom of the league. That was in the October/November time. That was pretty low.”
But he says gradually things started to move in the right direction: "We finished mid-table that year and the next year, after I’d had the squad together for a year, we won the league with 100 points.
"I’m not saying we’re going to win the league with 100 points next year, but sometimes there’s a lot of stuff to get through.
"All the decisions I make, I’ve got to get them right and over a period of time I’m convinced I will. But at this moment, people are questioning me, and I fully understand that.”
