Striker Jason Scotland felt he and his Town team-mates owed the fans, manager Paul Jewell and themselves Saturday’s extraordinary second half performance after their run of seven defeats. Scotland was one of the Blues’ star performers and netted the fifth goal as they came from behind to beat Barnsley 5-3 at Oakwell.
Scotland said: "When you’re not getting results your job is up for grabs. It is a big three points and things have changed.
"Football is a results game and when you don’t get them there is pressure and people look at the manager.
"During our bad run we have been unlucky in some games and in others we haven’t played well. We owed that performance to the fans, ourselves and the gaffer.”
The 32-year-old says he and other Town players still have hopes of a return to the Premier League: "Early on in the season, when we were near the top of the league, people thought we were having fantasies when we spoke of getting back into the top flight.
"We still have dreams about playing in the big time. I want another crack and so does everybody else in the team who has played there.
"Losing seven on the bounce made it difficult but, after scoring five, everybody is happy and buzzing in the dressing room.
"It has been really tough, but we like to think we can still get back into the play-off positions.”
Meanwhile, a Town reserves side is in action in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Chelsea's Cobham training ground this afternoon.
