Jewell Embroiled in Sexism Storm - Ipswich Town News
Town boss Paul Jewell is at the centre of a sexism storm this morning in the wake of his post-match press conference after the Blues' 2-1 defeat at Birmingham last night. Jewell is trending on Twitter and featuring on morning radio phone-ins.
The widely reported version of what the Town manager said regarding assistant referee Amy Fearn and the penalty the Blues weren't awarded is not an entirely accurate version of events.
As Jewell's press conference began, a reporter asked the Town boss, "I think everyone to a man thought it was a penalty, what's your view?" Jewell responded, "Unfortunately to every man, but not a woman.
"Although the referee didn’t have a very good view, the lineswoman, or whatever she's called, had a great view - it was a stonewall penalty and a sending off. You’ll have to ask her why she didn’t give it. It was a stonewall penalty."
