JET Hoping to End Barren Run - Ipswich Town News

Town star Jay Emmanuel-Thomas goes into today’s home clash against his former loan club Blackpool desperate for a goal to end a lengthy barren run stretching back to August last year.

The summer recruit from Arsenal has only netted twice in the current campaign, first of all in the Carling Cup defeat by Northampton and again at Portman Road as Southampton triumphed 5-2.

Emmanuel-Thomas, 21, has failed to find the net in his last 18 appearances for the Blues and would like nothing more than to be on target today.

He said: "I can’t seem to get a goal at the moment but it will come sooner or later. I’ve hit the crossbar twice and keepers have made some good saves.

"I’m just waiting for one to fly in and then I’m hopeful I can get on a roll. I’ve never been known for scoring tap-ins — I’m more of a wonder goal man!”

The Londoner has occupied a number of different roles since his £1 million-plus move from the Emirates and doesn’t dispute the fact that he has yet to display his best form.

He added: "I’m an attacking player, whether it’s left, right or down the middle. I’m not really fussed where I play. I just love going forward and getting on the ball.

"The Ipswich supporters haven’t seen me at my best yet but when the team finds its form and we get back to how we were playing two months ago I think you will see a difference in me.

"It has taken me longer than I would have liked to come to terms with moving here and settling down. Previously I would go off on loan and I always knew I would end up going back to Arsenal.

"Now it’s different. I’m here to stay and I’m getting my head down. I am working hard in training and looking to perform on match days — and I am hoping to get among the goals again.”
