Crewe boss Steve Davis says he’s unaware of Town’s interest in his side’s 17-year-old midfielder Nick Powell. However, TWTD understands that the England U18 international is indeed the third player Paul Jewell made an offer for over the weekend.
Davis said: "It's the first I've heard of it. My phone is always on and no one has been in contact with me.
"There have been no inquiries, never mind offers. I'm in close contact with the chairman [John Bowler].”
Town are understood to have had a £2 million offer for Powell, who has been named December's Football League Young Player of the Month, rebuffed with plenty of clubs — including Arsenal and Chelsea — having shown interest in the midfielder this season.
Meanwhile, sources on the south coast report that Portsmouth manager Michael Appleton has said Town targets Joel Ward and Jason Pearce are very much part of his long-term plans, Town also having had an offer for the pair turned down by Pompey.
