Portsmouth Set to Hold Player Sales Talks - Ipswich Town News

Portsmouth boss Michael Appleton says he is expecting to hold talks with chief executive David Lampitt regarding player sales with Pompey subject to a winding up order over unpaid PAYE totalling £1.6 million. Last week, the Blues made a bid believed to be £1 million for Jason Pearce and Joel Ward (pictured) with a second offer appearing certain in the next few days if one hasn't already been lodged since Saturday.

Appleton, who admitted he knew nothing about the winding up order until seeing weekend newspaper reports, says he anticipates speaking with Lampitt regarding the sale of players: "I’m expecting that conversation to come now, having been told the news. If that’s the case we have to deal with it and we’ll deal with it and then see where we are."

Over the weekend there were reports that Leicester had joined Town in chasing Pearce and Ward, but the Pompey boss says he’s not aware of any approach from the Foxes so far: ”I’ve not heard anything but they have a few quid and they seem to be in for everyone.

"It wouldn’t surprise me in any way, shape or form if they did come knocking for them in the coming days.

"It’s not welcome but I could understand clubs thinking there’s an opportunity to pick up players. We’re in financial difficulties.”

In addition to the Blues’ move for Pearce and Ward, Newcastle United have been linked with Portsmouth keeper Stephen Henderson.
