Town U18s coach Russell Osman says he’d be in favour of academy scholarships lasting for three and not two years as is currently the case. Former defender Osman joined the club not long after manager Paul Jewell took over a year ago.
Osman told the club site: "As it stands, the academy scholarships run for two years, so the lads finish them at aged 18, but in my opinion they should really be a year longer.
"I think that way there would be more of a level playing field for all of the kids, because by the time they are 19 or 20 they are pretty much all emotionally and physically developed.
"Whereas at the minute there are still some boys we see that could benefit from having another year here to develop a little further, before having to make the decision on whether to offer them a professional deal or not.”
