Portsmouth boss Michael Appleton says he’s still heard nothing from any manager other than Paul Jewell regarding his players and has had only one conversation with the Blues boss. However, it’s widely understood that discussions are continuing between Pompey and a number of clubs regarding the possible sale of a number of players.
In addition to Jason Pearce, Joel Ward and Stephen Henderson, who have been targeted by Town, Dave Kitson is interesting Brighton and Luke Varney has been linked with Wolves.
Appleton says he doesn’t know whether any of his players will be sold before Tuesday’s deadline: "If people decide they want to make a bid for our players it is up to them.
"I have had one conversation with Paul Jewell and that was after the initial bid for Jason Pearce and Joel Ward.
"We had a 10-minute chat and basically it was along the lines about it was not acceptable. I haven’t had a conversation with anyone associated with Ipswich Town since.
"I keep hearing about second and third bids but until someone rings me up from Ipswich Town Football Club and tells me they want to make a renewed interest in the two players then I will just carry on working with them.”
Speaking last week, Appleton admitted he hadn’t been officially informed who Town’s third target is and appears not to be being entirely kept in the loop.
Meanwhile, Leicester defender Sean St Ledger, who almost joined Town on loan with a view to a permanent deal earlier in the transfer window, says he’s now happy with life with the Foxes: "There was a point when I thought I was going out on loan to Ipswich and then the next moment I am playing in the FA Cup versus Forest.
"It has been an up-and-down time and I probably haven't known what was going on, but I am fully enjoying being back in the side, winning games and keeping clean sheets.”
